Swansgate Shopping Centre supports local charities to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III; In keeping with the King’s wishes to give back to our communities over the celebratory bank holiday weekend.
The centre runs its own Good Deeds campaign throughout the year where people can nominate community groups, charities and individuals who go the extra mile to help others to recognise their work and say ‘thank you’.
Most recently the center has proudly supported local couple Selina & Darren, taking part in the Rust Bucket Rally, raising funds for Breast Cancer Now. Swansgate Shopping Centre provided sponsorship for the couple, which will go toward their fuel costs and help them complete their race across Europe. The event itself raises over £250,000 for local charities. Swansgate Shopping Centre will be cheering them on and following their progress on social media later in the year.
Wellingborough group, Dog Squad NN8 received a nomination for the support shown to local resident Zara Thomas when she sadly lost her own dog Obi. Unfortunately Zara’s story had a sad ending but the Dog Squad worked around the clock to find Obi, staying in constant communication and sending the most wonderful messages of support to help Zara through a very tough time. The Charity works tirelessly to track, locate and re-unite dogs with their owners in the local area. Swansgate Shopping center’s donation to the charity, has helped them to purchase a new mobile WIFI box, and hot water dispenser for when the team are working through the night.
For the Coronation weekend Swansgate Shopping Centre has given the Good Deed’s initiative the Royal treatment and awarded a Coronation Good Deed as a nod to the Big Help Out charity campaign on Monday 8th May. Swansgate Shopping Centre is donating £500 to the local charity We Mind and Kelly Matters. Formed in 2019 after the devastating loss of daughter, sister and friend Kelly Francesca Lewis who, at only 24 years old, after a short battle with anxiety and depression took her own life. The charity aims to raise much needed funds for mental health and bereavement charities such as MIND and SOBS, so that anyone affected by suicide receives help and support.
Fiona Stevens, Marketing Coordinator at Swansgate Shopping Centre explained: “It is really important to all of us at Swansgate Shopping Centre to give back to our local community. We are proud to be able to support King Charles’ wishes to help out over the celebratory weekend. Our donation to We Mind and Kelly Matters is particularly poignant as Mental Health and Suicide Awareness is a cause we know is very close to King Charles heart.”
She continues “We have our bunting up ready for the celebrations over the Coronation weekend, and hope that everyone can use the bank holiday to help in their own communities. Whether that’s getting together with someone who needs a bit of company or volunteering for the day. If we all do our bit it will help a lot!”
