December’s Good Deeds winner is….
The Daylight Centre Fellowship!
A little bit about what they do:
Established in 1994, the Daylight Centre is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, food poverty, and social exclusion. Our mission is to provide vital services that empower and uplift our community. We focus on four key areas to achieve this goal:
Community Hub
Our Community Hub offers a welcoming space where homeless service users can access essential support and resources. This includes:
*Free hot breakfasts.
* Access to showers and IT facilities like telephones and computers.
* Assistance from community link workers, who help with housing referrals, benefits applications, and connections to partner agencies for physical and mental health appointments.
* Drop-in services, such as a free hairdresser, optician, dental services, and engaging activities.
* Provision of essential items like clothing, sleeping bags, hats, gloves, and ready-to-eat food.
We also run a community café during our main sessions, providing a warm, safe space for people facing social exclusion. It’s an opportunity to meet others and enjoy a low-cost meal in a friendly environment.
Charity Shop
Located in Wellingborough town, our shop sells donated items such as books, clothes, and bric-a-brac. Every purchase helps us raise crucial funds to continue supporting our local community.
Foodbank
Our foodbank, based on the outskirts of Wellingborough, provides a delivery-only service to households in need. Each week, we deliver food parcels to 80–120 households, ensuring access to essential supplies for those struggling with food insecurity.
Veggie Patch Allotment
Situated in Wollaston, our Veggie Patch grows fresh produce for our foodbank and community kitchen. It’s also a wellbeing facility where volunteers can engage in planting, harvesting, and maintenance—or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful countryside setting.
The Daylight Centre is committed to helping those in need. Our Community Hub is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome, whether they seek assistance or a place to connect with others.
