Swansgate shopping centre are delighted to donate £100 to Breast Friends Northamptonshire (BFN). BFN is a charity that provides both practical and emotional support to people affected by a Breast Cancer diagnosis in Northamptonshire. The charity offers support from diagnosis, throughout treatment, post treatment and for people living with secondary cancer.
BFN organises regular group meetings, health and social events, and physical activities, which help to promote well-being as well as providing information and opportunities for relevant support. This is coupled with a very active online support forum. In addition, BFN have developed a chemotherapy bag resource, alongside radiotherapy and surgery practical support, to provide people going through treatment in local hospitals with everything they might need during that time.
This donation will be used to fund BFN’s October monthly members’ meeting. BFN is very much a peer support group and their monthly meetings provide a platform for their members to support one another, to share advice and to “be normal” while relaxing over a cup of tea, having a laugh and maybe enjoying an activity together.
At October’s meeting BFN are running an Art Therapy workshop – this provides the opportunity for their members to learn a new skill and express themselves in a creative way – both a fantastic confidence boost and a good way to bond with others over a shared activity.
Lindsay Tickner, Centre Manager says, “We love to be able to support members of our local community and our Community Chest initiative is a great way of doing just this. Being able to choose a deserving cause each month is fantastic.”
If you would like to be considered for the Community Chest donation, then simply fill out a card and post in the entry box by the Community Noticeboard, which can be found in between Wilko & Home Bargains. You can nominate until the end of each month, when one nomination will be chosen to receive £100.
